Nadal has knee tendinitis


MADRID: World number one Rafael Nadal has tendinitis in his right knee, the Spanish tennis federation's doctor said Tuesday, one day after the Spaniard announced he would not take part in the season-ending Shanghai Masters Cup.Medical tests carried out on the 22-year-old confirmed the condition and the tennis ace will rest and undergo treatment until Saturday, team doctor Angel Ruiz-Cotorro said in a statement.Nadal will be able to resume training after this period of rest if he no longer feels pain, the doctor added. He will undergo further tests on Monday to assess the injury.Nadal, who owns eight titles from 2008 including a fourth straight French Open title and his Wimbledon championship, withdrew from the Paris Masters on Friday with a knee problem after losing the first set of his quarterfinal match against Nikolai Davydenko.On Monday he said he was pulling out of the November 9-16 Shanghai Masters due to fatigue after a long season and to focus on the Davis Cup in Argentina which will be held between November 21-23.Spain will face Argentina in the final which will be played on an indoor hard court in Mar del Plata.
