
ISTANBUL: Turkish leaders Friday held separate meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, as part of talks ahead of the trilateral summit to review Afghanistan‑Pakistan relations, their repercussions on the region, and joint projects to contribute towards stability, security and prosperity in the region.President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan held separate meetings with President Zardari and the Afghan President Hamid Karzai.The leaders also touched upon bilateral ties between Pakistan and Turkey and the need to further upgrade these to a higher level for the mutual benefit of their people.The President was appreciative of the role Turkey was playing in bringing Pakistan and Afghanistan closer and its efforts in replacing years of lack of confidence to an era of confidence building between the two neighbouring countries.He said Pakistan believed that a strong and stable Afghanistan was in the interest of Pakistan and the entire region and was willing to work with all stakeholders for lasting peace in the region.
