Colt Mccoy Injury

olt McCoy injury update: Texas Longhorn quarterback Colt McCoy is back on the field, encouraging his team during their match against the Crimson Tide. Colt McCoy’s injury took place when he took a helmet to his throwing shoulder during the first four minutes of the game.

Click here to read about Colt McCoy’s injury

So far, the loss of McCoy could be to blame for the beating that the Longhorns are taking against the Crimson Tide. A true freshman has taken over Colt McCoy, a two time Heisman Trophy nominee’s, spot – and things aren’t looking so hot.

Even though Colt McCoy’s injury wasn’t serious enough to send him to the hospital, he’s not going to play during the rest of the game. With a 13-0 record, the injury could cost his team their unbeaten streak.

Alabama has taken football by storm this year, and is even responsible for the meltdown of Tim Tebow – who was seen crying after Florida’s loss to Alabama at the SEC championship game.

So far, Colt McCoy’s x-rays are said to be negative, and that the shoulder injury could be a sprain. The trainers won’t let him back in the game, as they need to make sure that they confirm that the injury isn’t serious. After all, this young man has a possible NFL career to worry about!

For now, Colt McCoy’s injury doesn’t appear to be too awful bad. Let’s just hope it doesn’t have permanent repercussions for the promising young football player.

“I think you probably have achieved what you set out to achieve. But once you reach that level, you realise there is an immense desire to go all the way and I think there’s no relief in the camp,” he said.

Ponting says their side will have to be at their best against the Black Caps.

“The Kiwis have probably upset a few along the way,” said Ponting. “We know they are always a competitive team and few gave them a chance against Pakistan but they were obviously the better team.”

“It’s the first time in a few years we have not been ranked the number one team coming into a tournament like this. But we are happy with the way we have played one-day cricket over the last three to four weeks,” he said.

Djokovic calls for end to late night finishes

MELBOURNE: Defending champion Novak Djokovic has called for "compromise" with Australian Open organisers after he was involved in another late night finish. The third seed took the court at 11:10 pm on Sunday against Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis and did not wrap up until 2:26 am on Monday, with both complaining about the schedule."You have this unique excitement when you play the night matches. It's really fun. You make history by going into the 2:00, 3:00, 4:00 in the morning," Djokovic said."But on the other hand I don't think that this really benefits a lot of people that we played that late. Hopefully in the future we can make some compromise."Baghdatis, the popular 2006 finalist, was up until 1:14 am in the previous round and was involved in the tournament's record late finish last year, staying up until 4:34 am for a five-set marathon with Lleyton Hewitt.Djokovic said it was a relief to get off court unscathed -- and relatively early -- despite being pushed to a fourth set by the determined Baghdatis. Both players warmed up and down several times as they waited for Jelena Dokic's three-hour victory over Alisa Kleybanova that preceded their match on Rod Laver Arena.Despite facing a shorter recovery time for his quarter-final with the in-form Andy Roddick, Djokovic was confident he would be ready.Djokovic added that he was getting used to his new racquet after blaming a switch in sponsor for his slow start to the season.Djokovic became Serbia's first Grand Slam champion with last year's win over Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga after beating three-time champion Federer in the semi-finals.

Pietersen Warms Up To Captaincy Despite Defeat

MOHALI: Kevin Pietersen believes his first major away tour as England captain would help him mould the team with a demanding 2009 season ahead.
England ended the India tour without a win after challenges on and off the pitch, following the drawn second test in Mohali on Tuesday.
The visitors lost the two-test series 1-0 after India claimed a memorable six-wicket win in the first test in Chennai, chasing down a mammoth fourth innings target of 387 on a wearing pitch.
Pietersen won praise for keeping the squad together before they resumed the aborted India tour, following security concerns in the wake of last month’s militant attacks in Mumbai.
“I don’t think the captaincy of any nation is an easy job, in any sport,” he said. “The knowledge (with which) you take on the job, it is going to be very difficult, the last two months have been pretty difficult.”
Pietersen succeeded Michael Vaughan, who stood down in tears during this year’s home series defeat by South Africa, with Paul Collingwood giving up the one-day role.
“You learn a lot about individuals overseas. Vaughan and Colly (Collingwood), the blokes I played under, they say that when you go away you learn how individuals operate, how they go around the team.
“There is a lot I have learned over here. It has been a very, very interesting first two test matches away from home. I’ve enjoyed it, it has been a great challenge out here.
“You can look at positives, see how tough it is; when the good times come back again you can enjoy them a lot more.”
His century, braving a cracked rib, eased early concerns of captaincy hampering England’s best batsman.
England tour West Indies next month before preparing for the Ashes series at home in June. They are scheduled to tour South Africa in November.
Pietersen showed signs of warming up to his job, effusively praising players while holding back on questions about Vaughan’s comeback or the poor form of number three batsman Ian Bell.
“It is not something I have thought of,” he said of Vaughan.
Bell made 17, 7, 1 and 24 not out in the India tests to extend his indifferent run since he made 199 in the first test against South Africa.
“The best thing is to relax, watch the (past) good stuff. Watch the ball and hit the ball,” he said.

Pakistan Captain Shoaib Malik Special Plans To Tackle Mendis Menace

Karachi: Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik has said that his team is chalking out a special strategy to deal with Sri Lanka's sensational spinner Ajantha Mendis in the upcoming series.
Showing concerns about Sri Lanka's spin department, Malik said that Sri Lanka possess two quality spinners but for them the matter of concern was Mendis as Pakistan players have played Muralitharan earlier several times.
"Sri Lanka have two quality spinners in Muttiah Muralitharan and Mendis, but we have played Murali a number of times and now need to master Mendis, who has been doing very well," The News quoted Malik, as saying.
Malik singled out sensational Sri Lankan spinner Ajantha Mendis as his team''s main challenge.
Batsmen across the world best teams have struggled to read Mendis's magical `carrom ball'.

Malik admitted that Sri Lanka is a hard team to compete with.
"They have been doing well at the international level and will be tough opponents," he said.
Showing his disappointment over the cancellation of Indian tour, Malik said: "We are disappointed that India decided not to tour us."
"When India and Pakistan play each other, there is huge public interest in both countries, but that will now not come about," he added.

Wayne Rooney goal gives Manchester United club world cup crown

Tokyo - A 73rd-minute goal by Wayne Rooney gave Manchester United a 1-0 victory over Ecuador's Liga de Quito to win the club world cup on Sunday.
United played nearly all of the second half with 10 men at the International Stadium in Yokohama after defender Nemanja Vidic was sent off in the 49th minute for elbowing Claudio Bieler.
Rooney broke the deadlock when he took a pass from Cristiano Ronaldo and fired a low shot past keeper Jose Cevallos and inside the far post.
United become the first English club to win the competition in its current format to add the world crown to the club's Premier League and European titles this year.
It is the second successive win for a European side against the Copa Libertadores winners after AC Milan beat Boca Juniors 4-2 last year.
Three previous editions of the competition in its present form were won by Brazilian sides: Internacional Porto Alegra (2006 in Japan), Sao Paulo (2005 in Japan) and Corinthians (2000 in Brazil).

United had previously won the tournament's forerunner in 1999 by beating Brazil's Palmeiras 1-0 when it was a straightforward match between the European and South American champions.
Earlier, Japan's Gamba Osaka defeated CONCACAF champions Pachuca of Mexico 1-0 thanks to a 29th-minute goal from Masato Yamazaki to claim third place.

AC Milan signs David Beckham

LOS ANGELES: New AC Milan loan signing David Beckham has acknowledged that playing for Los Angeles Galaxy has affected his England career and said he was glad to be back at a top class side. Beckham, who joins the Serie A club in January on a two-month loan during the U.S. close season, flew into Milan on Saturday and completed a medical before being presented at a packed San Siro news conference full of glitz. "I always said I'd miss playing at the highest level. I'm not saying in America they won't get to the highest level. One day it will happen," the former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder said. "But five months off in the close season, I just can't do that, so it was important to take this opportunity. If any player is not playing or not playing at the top level, it's impossible (to play international football)." The 33-year-old, who has 107 England caps and wants to equal Bobby Moore's outfield record of 108 caps in February's friendly with Spain, said he had not been pressured by England coach and former Milan boss Fabio Capello to join the Italian club."Of course I asked his advice about where I should go on loan and for how long. He literally said 'the best thing for you is to play at the highest level wherever that is'," Beckham said. "I've played against (40-year-old captain) Paolo Maldini and I know how good he is. To be able to play with him is a great honour. I think I have already fallen in love. I love the history of great teams."

Gambhir, Dravid in century stand for India

MOHALI: Gautam Gambhir hit a second successive half-century and Rahul Dravid finally returned to form Friday as India consolidated in the second Test against England. The pair put on 128 for the unbroken second wicket as India recovered from the early loss of Virender Sehwag to take their lunch score of 51-1 to 134 without further loss by tea on the opening day.Left-handed Gambhir, who made 66 in the second innings of the first Test in Chennai which India won by six wickets, was unbeaten at the break on 78 with 10 boundaries.Dravid overcame his recent poor run to make 50 not out, his first half-century in nine innings.India began slowly after electing to bat in overcast conditions, groping for the first 10 overs of the match to make 15 runs for the loss of the dangerous Sehwag.Fast bowler Stuart Broad, returning to the England side in place of Steve Harmison after missing the first Test with a hamstring injury, struck with his sixth delivery.Sehwag, man of the match in Chennai for his explosive 83 off 68 balls, failed to score as he edged Broad's well-directed outswinger to wicket-keeper Matt Prior.Dravid walked in at his usual number three position despite making just 342 runs in his last 10 Tests at an average of 19.His lone four in the morning session, a pull off James Anderson off the 46th ball he faced, was his first boundary in five innings. It was left to Gambhir to keep the scoreboard moving with six fours before lunch, including two in Monty Panesar's first over.India ended the morning session on 51-1 from 21 overs, 35 of those runs coming from Gambhir's bat.Dravid opened out after the break, driving Panesar through the covers for his second boundary, before two fluent on-drives off Andrew Flintoff and Broad showed he was finally middling the ball.Another off-drive off Panesar brought up India's 100 in which Dravid's contribution was 39.Gambhir stroked freely at the other end, but was lucky to escape twice after reaching 70, off-spinner Graeme Swann being the unlucky bowler both times.Paul Collingwood failed to grasp a sharp chance in the slips as Gambhir edged Swann, before umpire Daryl Harper turned down the bowler's loud shout for leg-before.Television replays showed ball heading towards the middle stump.

India announces to call off Pakistan cricket tour

NEW DELHI: India has called off its planned cricket tour of Pakistan next year amid simmering tension between the nuclear-armed neighbors over last month's Mumbai attacks, an official said on Thursday."The proposed tour of the Indian cricket team to Pakistan stands cancelled," Rajeev Shukla, a senior official from the Board of Control for Cricket in India, told reporters.India has blamed Islamist militants based in Pakistan for last months attacks in India's financial heart which killed at least 179 people. The Jan. 13-Feb. 19 tour was to have involved three tests, five one-day games and a Twenty20 international, but required government approval."Taking into account the recent developments as well as the overall circumstances prevailing at present, it is not considered feasible to ask government permission for the proposed tour," Shukla said.U.S. and British officials have joined New Delhi in calling Pakistan to do more to stamp out militant groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, which they blame for the Mumbai attacks, from operating its soil. They have also urged restraint from India in its response to the attack and offered help in investigations as well as in the fight against militancy in both countries, which have fought three wars since independence from Britain in 1947.

Ponting hopes to maintain top position in cricket

SYDNEY: Australia’s skipper Ricky Ponting hoped that his team would continue to maintain its number one ranking in the cricket world next year too. Ponting said South Africa will not deserve to be called the world's best team even if it wins the forthcoming three-Test series starting in Perth this month.Australia is 13 points ahead of the second-placed Proteas on the International Cricket Council's Test rankings.Ponting says it takes a long period of domination for a team to become world champion."It has taken us a long time and a lot of great wins in different conditions around the world to get us to that number one spot," he said."If South Africa beat us 3-0, I don't know if that gives them enough points to get over us."But if they won the series 1-0 or 2-1, I don't think that would mean that they deserve to take over that mantle."Ponting said he had been assured that his wrist problem would not force him to scale back his workload.
