
DERA ISMAIL KHANI: At least seven people were killed and several others injured when a bomb ripped through a congregation of funeral prayers near Kotli Imam on Bannu Road on Friday morning.Media reports said that the funeral prayers a man, Ismail Shah, who was target-killed last night were being offered. Soon after the blast, extreme firing sounds are being heard triggering stampede and panic in the area. The panic-stricken people immediately shut the markets in the city and left for homes.The police personnel put a security cordon around the area and started shifting the injured to District Headquarters Hospital. However, police contingents faced great problems as the extreme firing ensued in the area.Angry people pelted police force with stones. Following the incident, DPO ordered to tear-gas the angry mob.There are reports that miscreants set various vehicles and shops on fire soon after the blast. Also, people set ablaze the place where the funeral prayers were being offered. But, Fire Brigade Squad is avoiding to reach the area owing to intense firing there.The hospital sources said bodies and at least 25 injured have been brought to hospital.It should be mentioned that a man who was organiser of Imam Bargah--Allama Nazeer Naqvi-- was also gunned down earlier today.Allama Nazeer Naqvi was member of a committee constituted to ease out the tense situation spawned by sectarian strife in the area.DCO Mohsin Shah said only seven people were injured in the blast.Sources said the blast was a suicide attack in nature; however, police sources did not confirm the blast was a suicide attack. NWFP Information Minister Iftikhar Hussain said that at least ten people were killed and 25 others injured in the bomb attack.(Last updated at 1150)
