Burney named for HR Award


KARACHI: The All India Human Rights Association, in collaboration with UN Information centre India has announced an “International Human Rights Award” for Pakistan’s former Federal Minister for Human Rights, Ansar Burney which will be given to him at a ceremony to be held in Amritsar, India on December 10, on UN Universal Human Rights Day.The Association, in collaboration with the UNIC, is also organizing a two-day International Human Rights Summit on December 10 and 11 to mark the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.The Secretary General of AIHRA, H. S. Tanwar in a letter to Ansar Burney, said: “every year on Human Rights Day, AIHRA felicitates a few luminaries with ‘The International Human Rights Award’ in recognition to their contribution towards cause of Human Rights.This year ‘AIHRA’ takes pride to declare Ansar Burney as most deserving personality of the year 2007-2008 for this Award based on recommendations of the National Selection Committee, comprising of Member/dignitaries from academics, Social Leaders and representatives of various NGO’s. AIHRA Selection Committee has considered Ansar Burney’s long and committed efforts to promote not only the awareness of Rights of Individuals but also the underprivileged of the society in the present scenario of commercial surviving environment all over the world.Mr. Burney’s efforts and commitment for the cause is worth noticing in view of his Services, family and Social Commitment and time constraints, the letter said.In October this year Ansar Burney received International “Mother Teresa Memorial Award” in Delhi, in recognition to his services for human rights.
