Man jailed for sex with girl, 14

A man with learning difficulties had a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl which was found out when she became pregnant.
Niki Dundas, 26, was arrested after the teenage girl went to Northampton General Hospital with medical complications and the pregnancy was discovered.Initially arrested on suspicion of rape, he denied having any sexual contact with the Matthew Maynard, prosecuting, said hospital officials started asking questions in December last year when the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, went to hospital.Once it was discovered she was expecting, the pregnancy was terminated and police "seized the foetus" as evidence to prove who the father was.Mr Maynard said when police confronted Dundas with the proof, he "lied and lied and lied again about the true extent of their relationship".At a hearing last month, Dundas, of Micklewell Lane, Southfields, admitted four offences of sexual activity with a child, committed between February and December last year.Judge Charles Wide QC sentenced him at Northampton Crown Court to 40 months' imprisonment. He was also banned from ever working with children. The judge said: "You are obviously a man with many problems and I do not need to spell them out. Although you are 26, you obviously operate at a level of someone much younger."You knew perfectly well it was wrong, very wrong, to have sex with a 14-year-old girl and you knew she was 14 before you had sex with her."She was exceptionally vulnerable and it is an aggravating factor that you and she would get drunk before having sex."It is a very seriously aggravating factor that she became pregnant by you and had to have a termination."Peter Coombe, defending, said his client has learning difficulties, is of low intelligence and immature for his age, mitigating the 10-year age gap between them.He said: "He is a very vulnerable individual himself. Since leaving school, he has had no assistance while making his way in the world."
